Well, the day didn't exactly start the way I had planned...
My alarm woke me up at 6:15 a.m. but it came too early! In my defense, I have had a cold for two weeks so I figured my body needed more rest to recuperate. But I am dressed and my kids are dressed, showered and fed so at 10:00 a.m. I figure I still have a pretty good start on the day!

The Calm Before the Storm Idea

Calm = 30 minutes to myself to pursue my passions, exercise, menu plan, work on To Do list, clean a closet, flip through a magazine, read a novel, etc.

Storm = When the kids wake up!
I am a mother of two kids ages 2 and 8 months. I am usually a very organized and scheduled person but having kids this close together has thrown me off of my game! I have a To Do list the size of a novel but each day seems like a whirlwind and things never get done. I LOVE being a mother and my kids are the cutest ever, but before I had children I had dreams and pursuits. I don't think that being a mother means you have to forget about the talents and goals that make you unique and interesting.
Here is how my day typically goes:
7:15 a.m. Wake up when I hear one of the kids crying in their room. I fall out of bed in my pajamas with "racoon eyes" as my husband calls them (mascara smeared all over my face) and pull both kids out of bed. I make them each breakfast then sit on the love sac trying to wake up myself.
Then after breakfast til 3:30 p.m. is kind of a blur. I always have the best intentions of getting dishes done, laundry folded, closet cleaned out, reading to kids, taking them to the library, setting up playdates, etc. Instead I end up change diapers, stopping fights, cleaning up puke, spilled food, and just trying to survive the whirlwind. By the time my husband gets home from work, I still have racoon eyes, the house is a mess, dinner is not even close and I wonder where the heck the day went!

I once heard of a lady who wrote a novel by just waking up 30 minutes earlier everyday. I wonder what I can accomplish if I woke up an hour early everyday. I am only doing an hour because I want 30 minutes to get dressed and ready before the kids wake up. I am NOT a morning person so this is going to be hard but starting tomorrow I will be up at 6:15 a.m. Tomorrow I think I will update my To Do list and clean up the house a bit so I can start fresh. Good luck to myself!
